A lorry driver was tragically killed in a strange accident at the ECRL construction site.

On construction sites, accidents involving mobile machinery are unfortunately commonplace, often resulting in serious injuries. A fatal car accident claimed the life of a 37-year-old motorist when his car slid off the road and into a ravine. My deepest sympathies go out to his loved ones and coworkers. The investigators will look into a wide range of possible causes for this disaster, including but not limited to medical issues, car defects, driver weariness, driver competency, lack of safety berms along the road, and the lack of seat belt use. The project owner should create site guidelines for the operation of mobile equipment, and make sure the site is safe for the equipment to run (by installing safety berms along site roadways, for example) as part of their procurement strategy. The tragic loss of life in this incident may have been prevented. To prevent a recurrence at any of the ECRL’s locations and to restore the confidence of other drivers of haulage trucks who may have been disturbed by this incident, a full and transparent inquiry should be conducted.
The Owners and Management of the Project are Responsible for the Safety of All Site Practices, Including Secondary Tasks Like Loading and Hauling. Vehicle operation and movement should be a part of HIRARC (Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Risk Control) drills on building sites.
