In the event of a criminal act by their minor child, parents face arrest.
Many young people in Malaysia have been killed by “Mat Rempit,” or motorbike stunt riders, and the unlawful activity is only becoming worse. Those of us who have taken an early morning flight out of KLIA (Kuala Lumpur International Airport) may have witnessed groups of young people engaging in high-speed “superman stunts.” People would often perform this stunt in front of other motorists, laying flat with their stomach on the motorcycle seat, legs outstretched behind, and head over the handlebars. In the wake of the proliferation of dashcams, more and more young people are opting for covert locations to engage in risky behaviours like drag racing.
Multiple deaths among young people have recently prompted the government to reevaluate a number of legislation. The government is aware of the need for these kinds of thrills among young people and is making preparations to build drag racing circuits in each State to provide an alternative to illegal racing and stunts. This news article serves as a reminder to guardians that it is their responsibility to prevent their children from engaging in risky, illegal motorcycle stunts and the customization of their vehicles in preparation for such activities. Losing young people causes emotional distress, deprives the country of potential contributors, and drives up healthcare costs everywhere. In addition to police measures, the government should implement community and school-based education initiatives to warn young people about the risks associated with motorcycle stunts and racing.
